ROW LIKE A CHAMPION
FEEL BETTER. MOVE BETTER. ROW FASTER.
Follow our custom programs that target areas that will help keep you rowing on the water or in the gym whether you’re a junior, collegiate, elite or masters rower
ROWING PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
All clients begin with a 1-on-1 assessment to identify problem areas that can be improved for better connection and posture while rowing. We assess every rower’s land and ergometer based movement by looking for any areas of decreases in mobility, strength or stability that can impact rowing stroke.
Our rowing performance assessment may include:
- Full body mobility screening
- Assessment of spine rotation and pelvis position and control
- Assessment of hinge and squat form
- Assessment of shoulder strength through hand held dynamometer rotator cuff testing, and assessment of upper body push and pull.
- Assessment of ergometer rowing biomechanics
ROWING SPECIFIC MOBILITY, POWER, AND STRENGTH TRAINING
An efficient stroke translates all generated power to the handle with the least amount of loss of force through breaks in the body’s connection. Efficient and powerful rowing mechanics are developed through a combination of factors such as core connection, control of pelvis positions, stable shoulders, and the ability to generate power to propel the boat through the water.
Our strength training programs utilize sports science testing to help build a program and track progress. Having a strength and mobility program to support ideal rowing positions helps develop and maintain connection for a more effective and powerful stroke.
At Champion, we believe that the most optimal strength and conditioning program for a rower must focus on the above unique needs while also addressing the athlete as a whole to improve overall health.
All of our training programs are customized, based on each person’s unique needs and goals and include:
- Mobility to allow for efficient rowing mechanics
- Stability to improve boat feel, maintain shoulder, trunk and knee position
- Strength to maximize boat speed
- Power to develop explosive drive speed
- Endurance to maintain mechanics and performance during practice or race
ROWING PERFORMANCE PHYSICAL THERAPY
We use the information gathered from the Rowing Performance Assessment as well as any history of injuries to develop a comprehensive physical therapy program. Our rowing performance physical therapists can identify any potential areas of concern or rehabilitate an active injury.
Our bodies are also impacted by our posture and daily activities. As we age, this can become cumulative and start to limit rowing stroke positions and power. Is your stroke changing? Is getting in and out of the boat more challenging?
Using a combination of soft tissue mobility, manual therapy, advanced strengthening, and dynamic stabilization drills, we will work to optimize your body and maximize your rowing stroke to keep you on the water, competing and enjoying rowing.
- Restore and maintain rowing-specific mobility with manual therapy, soft tissue massage, and flexibility techniques
- Build a bulletproof back, ribs, core, hips, and shoulders with specific corrective exercises and dynamic stability drills
- Reduce pain and return from injury with performance-based physical therapy
